What to Expect During Your First Acupuncture Visit

Schedule

First Appointment

Your first appointment begins with a personalized consultation where we will go over your health history and cover any questions or concerns before treatment. I also use Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis systems such as checking your pulses. The appointment lasts approximately an hour and a half, giving us plenty of time to ensure you feel comfortable and informed every step of the way.

Understanding Acupuncture Needles

If you've never experienced acupuncture before, you may be surprised to learn that acupuncture needles are incredibly fine—much thinner than the needles used for injections or blood draws. In fact, they're about as thin as a human hair. Most patients feel little to no discomfort when the needles are inserted, and many are amazed at how gentle the process actually is.

The Treatment Experience

Once your needles are carefully placed, you'll rest comfortably for about 20-30 minutes. This is often the most relaxing part of the treatment. Many patients find themselves feeling deeply calm and peaceful, with some even drifting off into a light, restorative sleep. The treatment room is designed to be a tranquil space where you can simply let go.

What You Might Feel

During treatment, you may experience various sensations that indicate your body is responding positively to the acupuncture. These can include a mild tingling, a sense of warmth, or a feeling of energy moving through your body. Some patients describe feeling "heavy" or deeply relaxed. All of these sensations are normal and often indicate that the treatment is working effectively.

After Your Treatment

Following your session, many patients report feeling more balanced, energized, or deeply relaxed. We'll discuss your experience and create a personalized treatment plan moving forward. Remember, every person responds differently to acupuncture, and we'll work together to ensure your treatments are as comfortable and effective as possible.
